Before i start I think you should know that the first 5 days are the hardest but then after that its well easy as you never feel hungry!
I've done diets before - calorie-controlled, low-fat - you name them i've done it. None worked! I do this sceptical that this will work too but then i go from 24st to 20st in 2 months! I have everyday people around me starting to be concerned and thinking stupid things like am i starving myself?
I'm also having to ask my mum if she can take in my clothes !
The thing i love about this diet is that it blows to pieces the so-called 'food-pyramid' and 'way we should eat'. Secondly, (after the first 5 days) you never feel hungy - on calorie-controlled & low-fat diets you are literally STARVING!
Some of my friends and other family members, have all lost weight on the diet - do it you won't regret it! You see you're losing weight so you stay on it which is easy to do as you never feel hungry.
Just remember that your coffees, cokes and drinks all have carbs in them too! Good Luck !
UPDATE - Now Oct 4 months on from when i started, I've now got myself down to 14st (I was originally 24st).
Its all just muscle that i've lost is it? Well i've lost alot from my waist - 54in to 36in waist. I always told my family that there were abs there they never believed me!

If you just interested in losing lots of weight fast stick to the induction phase only, your looking at 4 or 5 pounds a week. A month of hardcore induction Atkins (which isn't difficult after just expensive) and your looking a good stone and a half.

The entire thing could be stripped down to a fifth by removing all of the drama (real life stories) and the final three steps of the diet. This book need to lose weight. Needless to say it works.

This book is a main component to my happiness and I highly recommend it if you feel like your overweight.

What can I add to all the glorious reviews below this one? Here's a man that was frowned upon for many years because he dared to oppose his pears. Unfortunately his diet was only officially recognized after death and as a result several similar diets have sprung up since, taking advantage and credit of his lifetimes work.
My husband and I started this diet almost 4 months ago and I have lost over 24 pounds and my husband has lost 22 (and all this without exercising which Dr. Atkins highly recommends and we intend to follow soon). I did my research on the diet and the man and we decided to give it a try. It has worked all the way, as we were committed to loosing this weight (and still going strong). I have always been slim, working hard at it since I suffer from hypothyroidism, but gained a lot of weight during a miscarriage (stress and disappointment) and then a pregnancy 5 months later. The total weight gained was 78 pounds from which I had only managed to loose 37 pounds (through various diets) by the time my son was 28 months.
Now I will fully admit that this diet is not for everyone just like giving up smoking is not for everyone, when you are not committed to the cause. I assure you if you do what you have to do and READ THE BOOK COVER TO COVER it will work for you. Dr. Atkins stresses how you should be taking multivitamins and also for example magnesium in our case, since we feel fatigued sometimes given the fact that we have stuck with Induction all this time to loose weight more rapidly. If you read the entire book you will see that Dr. Atkins gives solutions to any problems that may occur while on the diet, like for example how yeast can prevent some people from loosing weight (which as I found out was also my case). I followed his advice and started loosing weight once again.
This is a book that you need to refer to again and again to ensure that you are doing the right thing. But we didn't gain the weight overnight; who said it would be easy loosing it?
When we ordered this book we also ordered one of his recipe books "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Cookbook" and we have used some of the recipes, which were very tasty and most important they did not need much prep time. I will admit, since we have only used a few recipes I would not be honest enough if I said they were all great, but give them a try and decide for yourself.
Also, I would like to add that Dr. Atkins did not just give us a new diet but a way of life, as we fully intend to go through the other phases after loosing all the weight we want to loose, and staying with the maintenance from there on.

I am sorry, but as a dieter of over 25 years, this booksays it all. Basically, all diets work. Why? Because they focus on keeping the insulin levels down. The Atkins is no different. However, unlike othe diets I have tried, Atkins doesn't count calories, and this has to be a good thing. I have weighed and counted calories for years. Can you imagine eating all you want, providing that it does not include carbs? It does work. I lost a stone in three weeks and was really difined. It is claimed to be the number one diet. All I say is, once you have achieved your target weight, you eat sensibly, introduce green leafy veg, and don't go back to eating sugary, starchy carbs.

I have to confess something. A friend of mine was raving about the Atkins diet and she has lost a lot of weight. It didn't make HEALTHY sense to me. About five years ago I went through an addiction to working out and I was able to lose A LOT of weight, maybe the fact that I was in the gym everyday caused me to eat less as well. However, I noticed the weight creeping on again and no matter how hard I tried to lose the 12lbs that I gained I could not shift it. Low calorie diets failed because I was always hungry and all the other ones seemed so complicated with the points and grams etc etc .

So................................

I decided to buy the Atkins book. I have finished my 14 day induction today and have just weighed myself. I have lost 7lbs in 14 days. Admittedly I know a lot of it is water but what a motivator to keep me going. The best thing about the Atkins is there is NO HUNGER, NONE, NO STOMACH CRAMPS, NO DIZZY SPELLS, NO CRAVING SOMETHING SWEET, NO THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND AND RUNNING OUT TO BUY A CHOCOLATE BAR.

I have to seriously consider incorporating this into my lifestyle.
